Another fun project .. a non design one this time

My scanner broke few months back. I've been working without a scanner till 3 days ago when I got my brand new gorgeous Canoscan (it's not that good of a scanner actually, but not too bad).

So what should I do with my old one? here it is. my brand new Light Box! Something that I've always wanted for a very long time, now I got a chance to build it. Looks pretty good and works perfectly.

Exhibition + Graduation + More to come

A few weeks ago, I got a surprise letter from University of Applied Sciences in Germany, inviting me to take part of their exhibition in type in motion. I crossed my finger hoping everything goes well, and hopefully I will have the chance to see it in person.

I've officially graduated from School of Visual Arts MFA Design program. The commencement was held at the Radio city Music Hall last Friday, May 15, 2009. Big Kudos, to my fellow MFA Design classmates who have been standing next to me for all the ups and downs, the drama, and all the late night studio time doing projects that never seems to end. The biggest honor for me to be at SVA is to be able to stand next to these incredibly talented designers. Congratulation to all of us and I missed all of you dearly.

Sometime end of last year, I had a small discussion with Rafael Esquer's of Alfalfa Studio about our profession as a designer, which in the end is more about filling the story in your "book of life". Whether the book is thick or thin, it just have to be a beautiful book. I and a lot of people who graduated his summer would feel that it's really a dreadful time to graduate. We're right in the middle of economic cathastrophy. Resumes after resume are sent, and most of them leads to no response or "sorry we're not hiring" E-mails. I kept a positive mindset nonetheless. This is just a small chapter in my book. For those who have opportunity open in their company, please do share. So for those of you who are looking for a job, hold your head up high and hang in there. It will be a great one.

After months of work, finally my second book (210 pages thick!) that contain all my work from 2006 to 2008 is done.

enjoy and let me know what you think or if you want to see it in person.

New years resolutions

My last new years resolution was pretty simple. To writing a weekly journal religiously and do more playful projects. How did that go? For writing journal part, I was doing pretty well until last August where thesis starts driving me crazy and everything went out of control. As for the second one, I think I'm doing pretty well and I actually enjoy making funny stuffs. The only problem is, for some reason I feel too embarrassed to publish them.

As for this year, I decided to repeat last years writing weekly journal resolution. This time I'm sticking to it to the end. The other resolutions are to dedicate at least 12 hours a week for relaxing and having fun (it was only 6 hours on Friday night before), 6hr a week of doing personal work + stop worrying about failure, and keeps trying to the fullest. This is why I write it down on my blog, so if I don't stick to it, you can laugh at me at the end of this year.

As a start, I put up poster that I've meant to sell at ETSY from a long time ago. I was hesitating because I was worried people not gonna buy it. This time it's worry free and see what happen.

So please visit my post and help promote it to your friends.

New years resolution is a funny thing. Just a good time to start something new. But why can't we start new things any other day?

Anyway, thanks!
